    Frank H's Book

    Frank,

I have a couple of questions. You mentioned a while back that you were in the process of writing a book on badges.

    1. What badges are you discussing in the book?
    2. How is it progressing, and any ideas on approximate release date?

    Thanks.

    Dear Darrell,

It is going to be a series on several war badges, I am planning many more books to come. The "new thing" the series will introduce is that it makes an effort to show for the first time ALL different makers with ALL their variants, no matter if these makers are known, unknown, marked or unmarked. Each badge is shown with 5 colour pics. Also shows the most common and most dangerous fakes. Shows also packets, cardboard boxes, miniatures, documents, badges in wear...in short everything around one certain badge.
General Assault Badge will be first, PAB will be next. Book covers the "regular" GAB and the numbered ones as well. 420 pages, hardcover, DIN A5 format, completely in English (texts are mine, but will be revised and proofread by a native American speaker).
Release is spring 2005. It will be available through me and selected dealers in Germany and worldwide. I will announce the release when the time is there.
Many badges of members of this forum are shown! Association members and contributors will get 20% off of the retail price. Here is a teaser double page:

Another shot to show you how the book works:
Each maker is introduced with a close up of his eagle´s design. On the right side, all variants for this maker are listed, with measurements, weight and metal type. On the subsequent pages, all these variants are shown in the way you see that GB42 (from Lorenzo) in the above screenshot.
            Cheers, Frank

Excellent Frank just the kind of thing I was hoping for. Count me in for a signed copy. Can't wait for this or the rest of the series. I hope it becomes a reality.

                Cheers,
                David.
At Rathau on the Aller, the CO of 5th Royal Tanks advanced on foot to take a cautious look into the town before his tanks moved in. He encountered one of his own officers, a huge Welshman named John Gwilliam who later captained his country's rugby team, 'carrying a small German soldier by the scruff of his neck, not unlike a cat with a mouse.' The Colonel said: 'Why not shoot him?' Gwilliam replied in his mighty Welsh voice: 'Oh no, sir. Much too small.'

Don´t throw away your fake WB´s! Get in touch with me.
I collect them for reference purposes for the benefit of the hobby (for the right "fake" price of course).
