    Opinions please EKI Spange

    Hello Gentleman,

I would appriciate your thoughts on this EKI spange marke "1" for Deschler & Sohn. The pin is solid and does not bend. The space between the eagles head is equal. I find these to be challenging at times because the fakes are so well made. Thank you in advance .

Looks like cast marks on the lower left of the catch as well as the top right of the hing.

I stand corrected and these are not cast marks as I was PM e-mailed by one of the other memebers. I was also informed that Detlev had this same example up for sale about a week or two ago. If the buyer reads this thread can you please post pics.

I was also Pm about inreference to the thickness of the piece.

      -hair under 2mm wings

      -hair under 3mm breast.

      - pin is solid and will proably break before it bends.

      - The maker mark is not typical for Deschler & Sohn, but I have been informed by the same memeber that this is not the first time they have seen this "1" used.

Any furthur help would be appriciated or at least post a Deschler & Sohn spnage if anyone has one in thier collection.

      Much appriciated ,

      JD

Based on a comparison of the stippling of the date bar of this Spange and that of a "Raptor Foot" fake, I am of the opinion that this is a "Raptor."

            Hello George,

They really date stampings don't really look the same to meas the raptor

What do you think, mine is a a dud?????

I do see your point in the dating, but is the example you posted supposed to be the same as mine?? The "3" and "9" are not the same, mine has the serifs on the "9" and the " 3" is different on the top. I think that I am confused, is your example supposed to be an original or is it the raptor fake?

George I need a little more help, PLease.

            Best,
            JD

              Joe,

My example is from a Frank H. post on the Raptor fake.
I don't see a difference in the tops of the "3s." There could be a difference on the "9s," as to whether they have serifs or not, or whether they're not visible in Frank's pic due to lighting, etc. But to me, the stippling is similar enough that I would stay away from it. (And don't forget your previous mention of the untypical Deschler "1.")
It's just my opinion, based on the pictures. It's possible that I would come to a different opinion if I had both pieces in hand.
              George

Here's the whole "Raptor." It's not as clear a pic as yours, but compare them.

                    Awesome observation George!

Is there a large image of the fake dot pattern to use for reference?

                        Well,

Thank you all for the responses, as my knoeledge of this award has just grown a little more.

@ Detlev, I should have said similier, I had not seen the spange on your page , but it was referenced as being like the one I posted by one of the pros on the site, he was 50/50 on the piece. Misunderstanding of terms.

I wonder how many people have fakes of this award in thier collection? Somtimes it really is splitting hairs.

                        Best,
                        Joe

Joseph; In some ways I can share your feelings, these things are so well faked, its not funny. I have been burnt twice with spange bars, for a while there I was turned off these completely, now I am at the recovering stage of where if I see a nice cased first class spange for sale I will probably jump on it, if everything else checks out good.
