57 U Boat Clasp in Silver

Interesting piece for your review. It's marked Assmann on the reverse and has the eagle unlike the S&L version. The detail/frosting/burnishing on the obverse is stunning! Let me know what you think.

Did it have a swaz cut off?

Yeah, it looks like they took a genuine one, cut the swaz off, mounted new hardware and then plated it silver...Tom

                    Hello

I'd have to agree, that that looks like a wartime piece, probably an unfinished, left over clasp, which Assmann have removed the swastika from and put some 57 hardware on the back. Interesting is the hinge as it is the open type, which is more normally associated with the later early / early mid production pieces, (although there is an EK1 on here somewhere purchased in, I think, 1964, with the open hinge, so who knows).

                    Regards
                    David

David, you're right on the crimped later style hinge, but this is the only type of hinge I've found on 'A' marked badges. If you have any others marked 'A' with a solid hinge, I'd like to see them.
