I disagree, it is a late war cap and normally comes with wood buttons. If you hold the cap in the right light you might can see the RBN #

Relic Hunter has one on his site. I'm not sure what to make of them. I looked at some past threads and there are those that strongly believe in them. I guess its a similar circumstance as the Officers M43 with wool dark green trap. So I'll reserve my judgement and await further facts/comments. WR JimComment

I agree with Colorado, having it in hand is a lot different. My instinct says original and the source also made it likely it was real. It came from the Catskill region here in NY, it was from a person's grandfather. The hat was found in a mixed lot of stuff and wasn't actually for sale until the person I got it from asked to buy it. They couldn't even believe that German WW2 stuff was even reproduced or why !Comment

Like I said, no doubt original.
Jim - I saw Gerard's (Relichunter's) cap at MAX and it could be right as rain, but the Trap is not typical when compared to the the two-piece Italian insignia that is shown above. It also has the hand-applied look to it, and it may have put buyer's off.
