    PAB Herman Aurich

    Hi Guys.
Can anybody tell me how to recognice a fake HA pantzerbadge ?
what to look for, what are the differences with an original.
I would really appreciate any hints or comments, could do with some pictures
of good ones and bad ones.
    Kind regards. Dennis

    Hello

I suppose that you are talking about the last fake. The first one would have been produced by Floch in the early 80s and is rather easy to identify since it does not bear much characteristics of original ones. The ball hinge on the reverse is the best give away.
To come back to the last fake, they are more dangerous since they have a hinge, a hinge attachement which is, as far as I can see, very similar with good ones. However, to separate fakes from good, you need to watch carefully the obverse side. The fakes have usually much less details. Have a look on the tracks, this is IMO a good give away.
Detlev has exposed these fakes in his "copy section" some months ago. I am going to try to attach the pic but need to resize them. I have based my assumption on this pic since I have not any other photo of a faked one. I would also appreciate close up views.
    Hope this helps
    Regards
    Denis

          Hi Denis
I see what you mean and the differences are very clear, much less details
on the fake one, I hope you can give me some more to go on.
          Thank you.

The first HA fake has greater detail than the last one to hit the market. If it had the same hinge/catch as the latest it would be very difficult for collectors to tell the difference.

Notice that on the fake John posted, the back is completely flat vs. the scooped back of a good HA PAB. On the fake that Detlev posted, the back appears to be scooped like a good one.

                    Hi Guys,

I think with the two fakes posted by Dennis and John the best Aurich fakes are covered.

The second one posted by John for sure has good detail but won't fool anybody once you handled an original PAB. Besides the fact that it is a complete flatback, has the mm in the wrong place and uses the wrong setup it also is made of the wrong material making it very heavy and smooth when you touch it.

I never had the opportunity to handle the fake posted by Detlev and I remember that when he first posted it it scared a lot of people to dead. It's almost perfect and you could forgive its lack of detail but IMO the big give away is the right Panzer track. Look at the angle it makes to the left side. Originals also tend to do that but not in the same way. On this copy it looks like the track could role of any minute.

Here are my two Aurich's. In fact the silver version came in 3 different finishes; "frosted" like mine, "chroom" like finish (Frank H owns one of these beauties in mint condition) and the most commonly encountered "subdued" finish.

                      Aurich PAB's

Notice that the bronze one got a periodical repair to both hinge and pin but very nicely executed.

I agree Philippe. Hinge's zone is a bit wrong. that Fake is a second series from fakers, after reading our threads they learn very good, is for this I always not like to say all about differences !

Notice the original Detlev's showed is one of mines.
