Soldbuch to a 16 year old!

I bought a group of documents for one item recently in an auction, the item I was after was a RLM Dienstausweis but amongst the group were also some driving licenses, Red Cross ID's and a Soldbuch.

Couldn't see anything about the Soldbuch but the group arrived today.

Interestingly the Soldbuch is made out to a 16 year old.....16 and 2 months to be exact.....and today is his birthday!!!

After a short period of training he was transferred to 9 Kompanie, Grenadier Regiment 766, 719 Infanterie Division fighting in Saarpfalz at the time.

14.4.1945 he was taken prisoner, captured by US Troops and processed by the "229th Military Police Prisoner of War Processing Platoon".

Need to have a dig around as to what his unit was doing at the time....must have been with the unit for a maximum of a month...if even that!

    /Ian

            very nice soldbuch Ian!

my son turns 16 in a few days, the next 30th December!

I have a "nachrichten" soldbuch of his own age (two months older, and enlisted 20 days before)......

                    Very nice Oriano!

I know I have some Wehrpässe to 16 year olds but not sure if I have any other Soldbücher.....will need to have another look.

Interestingly your guy was issued a rifle, although mine was with a field unit there is no weapons issued, or at least mentioned in the Soldbuch.

                    Your are right Jeff,

This got him out of Berlin! His initial training unit was stationed in Berlin-Spandau and was mobilsed itself 24.3.1945 and fought on the Oder River.

Interestingly Grenadier Regiment 766 was formed on 29.12.1944, part of 719 Infanterie Division. The Regiment was destroyed March 1945 in Saarpfalz and reformed 14.4.1945 on the upper Rhein......the latter date being the date of his capture!

There are no indications when he joined the unit except he had gas chamber tests on 5.3.1945 and kit issued 20.2.1945 when on his way to a field unit.

This was in the rear pocked also.....

                    /Ian

WOW Ian and Oriano... really appreciate this post. These are most interesting Books.... Even Birthdate 1927 Soldiers who really saw Action are Scarce (I had one from the "GD", KIA during the very last days), but THESE 1928 (almost 1929 for one of them...) can be considered as "very rare" !!

Congrats Guys, thanks for sharing, and Merry Christmas for you and all Posters from this Thread ! Lionel.

Ian, I think you still have a FSJ soldbuch belonging to a sixteen year old, with an 'oath to Donitz' entry in it.
