This past weekend I stopped by the local frame shop to find out about framing my Panther tank print. Got to talking with the guy behind the counter and he says his father brought back a set of German binoculars from WWII. He said they were quite large, too large to be a handheld field set. He was willing to bring them for me to look at, so I brought my camera and left work early today. He won't part with it but it sure was nice to be able to look at it.
If I understand the use correctly, these had a wide field of view and were used to bring the the 8.8cm range finder close to target. Serial number is 267165. Ordnance code 'blc' is Carl Zeiss Jena.
Damaged hinge and incorrect (?) screws
