Jan Arne, I like it the most too I was lucky (thanks again John!!) to have this badge decribed in latest English language edition of S.Weber's book, type 1.09.

                      Lots of U-boats!

Post #51: This mysterious badge has the Wiedmann obverse design which was also used by the "unknown flatback" maker, but this example has margins subtly different from Wiedmann's and neither does it match the usual flatbacks. It has a post-war hinge I believe. A conversation piece for sure.

Post #52: Nice 5-feathered zinc U-boat, possibly Lüdenscheid made.

Post #53: Nice zinc S&L Type 2.4.1 (most common variant but unusually good gilding on this one)

Post #54: The reverse of your P&L nicely shows the silver flash-coating under the gilding.

                      Best regards,
                      ---Norm

                          Hi Jan Arne,

Could you look closely with magnification at your badge around the catch to see if there's any faint circular margin like the Wiedmann mark? Also, the area with the marred finish on the reverse of the sub could conceivably be where there used to be a round catch plate from a previous Wiedmann setup.

                          Best regards,
                          ---Norm

                                Hi Jan Arne,

I think the mystery is solved about your badge in post #51. The same type is discussed in this thread. It turns out to be a post-war Souval, probably dating from just after Souval ran out of wartime stock and began stamping new planchets from the original obverse die. Souval, Wiedmann and the "flatback maker" all used the same obverse design, causing the initial confusion.

                                Best regards,
                                ---Norm
