    tropical cap /question about roundel.

    Hi to all,

I have a question about heer tropical bill cap.
In some case,is it possible to find roundels period applied through the lining?

    Thx for your answers

Not normally Axel. It's usually a red flag that a cockade has been replaced; they were usually sewn on along with the eagle as part of the manufacturing process prior to the liner being added and all parts sewn together.

Any details on the cap in question? Maker? Pics?

      Hi Mark,

      Thx for your answer!!
      Exactly what I thought...
Here some pics of the roundel.
The cap itself is original..but the seller said it was period applied in his description and I am clearly disapointed.
I think the roundel is original, but it's difficult to be sure without to see the backside...

          Hi Axel,
What Mark says is correct, but I've owned two originals with this factory applied feature. Is the eagle all hand sewn in your case?
From your images I'd say your example is also originally applied on a 1943 dated cap.
          Regards,
          Mark

It looks like an original cockade and nicely applied, though as has been said, in most cases this would be considered a sign of re-application, but as has also been said this can be period done. Looks good in this case, IMO.

Agree with our two cap gurus on this one as usual. This one looks to be totally period done, note that the thread is the same as used in the construction. Who knows why they did it this way but its a legit cap. If you can't sleep comfy with it at night I have a head in need. Great cap, too minty really for my taste but ya know its a fine original. Jeez, I'm glad that I said "not normally" instead of "No". I knew that someone with a later cap would probably produce an example, which looks quite good. I wouldn't want to see this on an early cap though.
