    Chaplain Stuff

    Bob,

Finally got to see yours and Chris' attachments. I have that very same POW book through the same publisher. Chris has a few that I haven't seen. I also have some other soft cover paper pieces that are memorial type brochures. Maybe I will have Jim scan them and the others I have mentioned when I am up in San Antonio on the 6th & 7th of March. I know I have some others packed away somewhere? I have alot of magazines, soldaten Lieder other paper items stuffed in drawers. Much of which is mixed together. I planned on searching through them and and all the Death Notices of priests, chaplains, friars who were serving as regular soldiers in the wehrmacht. Bill

Great. Interesting forum. I had wanted to start a thread on religious paper items. Now that attachments are working here are a few more. Pictures from a photo book of priest and then his death card. And then a pic of the inside of a prayer book.

          Bob,

Nice items! I will gather everything I have before I head up to SA. I'm sure Jim will post photos of everything I bring so you and Chris can see what I have. Then we can discuss via PM's emails. I don't mind giving up all the items to those who will appreciate it much more than I. Bill

Here's one that I have shown before but it has been deleted over time from the forum...

The Soldbuch to Wehrmachtpfarrer Wilhelm Kolodzieg. The Catholic Priest of 196 and 296 Infanterie Division.

He was a prisoner of war in Russia, obvious by the Russian writting to the Soldbuch.

outstanding photo in the soldbruch!! A few key points:

Nice Catholic style collar tabs. The tabs have an outstanding backing to them and really show off the violet. Due to the brightness, I would say the tabs are more of the pink-violet than the purple.

Non standard cross! Great shot of that! Remember, each demonination had their own style of "official" cross. It seems that while the Protestants usually can be found in photos wearing this issue piece, the Catholics are about 50/50. Some shots are out there that show the issue cross being worn, but there are a lot more than you would think like this, where the priest had his own style of cross. You can even find this in WWI!

Nice ribbon bar! This guy obviously saw action and spent some time in the military unlike many Kriegspfarrer that were drafted into the Army during the war. I would love to his this Priest's history!

                      Ian,

Nice rare Soldbuch of a Chaplain. I think you have Chris and Bobs full attention.

                      Chris & Bob,

I found five more religious related books last night. One has on the cover Divisionpfarrer P. Autbert Stroick with Iron Cross in the middle and then gefallen am 5 Juni 1940 This Military chaplain was Killed in Action and inside has photos of him in Civilian/Military life, him giving service at funerals (wearing cross & sash in uniform) and then his own funeral and gravesite. I also dug through my photo holders and found 10 DN’s of Chaplains/priests/Kooperators serving in the Wehrmacht as Sanitaters some are wearing IAB’s I also found one really interesting post-war DN on a Chaplain Prof. Anton Ullrich. One side of the DN gives a bio on his career….he served in WW1 & WW2 and was a Militarpfarrer from 1936 to 1945. On the other side is a photo of him giving a service at a Military funeral and he is in uniform wearing two crosses. His Chaplains cross and a EK1!! Once I finish searching the DN's I will then begin the search through my photo collection. That will take a little time.
